Look around and see all the job ads and new software that promises to fill your positions…amazing how many scams out there in recruiting.
Why? Many employers/hr departments will buy into job boards/software that promises to make their life easier with hiring. Employers are desperate many times to fill positions and many don’t want to and should not pay 20% fees to recruiters (those are crazy fees). And the job boards/social media know employers are desperate and will spend 1k to 5k on boards that “might work”
Some job software/job boards work for certain positions and sometimes employers do get lucky and find a person.
The one thing that recruiting has taught me…You have to work hard every day to fill positions…Always speaking with talent and sourcing…No magic job site or software(ATS, etc) is going to fill your positions for you.(at least not yet – I still believe once you see Real Estate Agents gone – then Recruiters will be next – Real Estate is tangible and will be easier to replace)
Look at big corporations…they will have teams of recruiters, post everywhere and still can’t fill positions! Why? Many times (and I see this when I go onsite to employers) – the recruiters don’t want to call candidates or rely strictly on what comes in from job ads. ATS systems are great for compliance but are awful for recruiting. You are not going to get the cream of the crop applying to your job ads.
The new shiny software/job boards that come out the more I realize – it is all smoke and mirrors. You can’t get around picking up the phone/working hard if you want to fill your positions.
Every new board/ats – they all get saturated at some point…Monster then Careerbuilder then Linkedin then Indeed then ZipRecruiter…what is NEXT?
All the candidates getting hit up all the time turn them off. Remember a few years ago – if you spoke with anyone in recruiting/hr – they would all talk about linkedin as if they owned the company…it’s great/fantastic, etc…Now, it is old news for people are tired of getting contacted by recruiters/employers all day long. They tune everyone out.
What is missing? Recruiters (Most) don’t want to pick up the phone and sell their clients/company story. Why? For that is hard work…most just want to email and be lazy.
That is why we fill our client positions…for we partner up with them and sell their story to candidates. You can’t get around hard work in recruiting. You might get lucky being lazy but that ends quickly and that is why you see so much turn over in recruiting on the agency and employer side. HARD WORK IS GOOD FOR THE SOUL!!! AND YOUR CLIENTS!!! Pick up the phone, skype, google hangout, interview in person (what a shock to some!!!)
